Welcome to From The Root
From The Root: Transformative Education is a brain-based, trauma-informed program focused on integrating social-emotional, family culture, and mindfulness practices to enrich the development of young children. Our methodology is adult-first (the root of our children’s development), working with adults caring for young children to understand the value of healthy living and the importance of connecting the mind, body, and brain.
Breaking through the transgenerational cycle of trauma, adults can transform their lives, impacting healthy development in young children. We provide an array of behavior management strategies (connecting the mind, body, and brain) on how the brain learns, supporting educators, families, and children to use everyday events in learning opportunities.
We provide parent education for the betterment and quality of parent-children interactions; enhancing communication, emotional support, family resiliency, and healthy relationships between family members.

Why From The Root?
Our program is designed to support school administrators and educators in their mission to optimize learning through safe, responsive, and emotionally connected environments for ALL children. Our workshops provide practical tools that are trauma-informed, driven by brain-based research to educate the adults working with children the importance of self-regulation and the management of learning and behavior. From The Root answers the

two most important questions for school districts: What do children need for healthy brain development? How can we provide these experiences?

Our workshops models self-regulation technique, while teaching the effects of ACEs in equity-centered and culturally responsive practices so in turn educators can model these strategies in the classroom to optimize learning, resilience, and community.
What is ACEs?
Today more than ever, we know how ACEs have detrimental effects on our bodies, mental health, and on the management of learning and behavior. Stress is an inevitable part of life however, toxic stress can be mitigated by intentionally providing a learning environment that promotes self-regulation and brain-based teaching strategies. Learn more about ACEs and how our program supports adult and children well-being.

Q&A
-
What does a Trauma-Informed, Brain-Based teaching approach mean?It is a teaching approach that incorporates an understanding of how trauma (ACEs & toxic stress) affects brain development. It looks at children’s behavior from a brain-based perspective to inform teaching or parenting practices. Incorporating trauma-informed practices aims to create a consistent, predictable, safe, supportive learning environment for all students.
-
What does a Trauma-Informed teaching practice look like?School Districts and educators who adopt a trauma-informed, brain-based approach are trained to recognize the signs of trauma evident in challenging behaviors and academic failures and adapt their teaching strategies to support the emotional and cognitive needs of students.
-
How do our workshops support teachers and families? The workshops are designed to make transformative changes, by fostering connections and skills using real examples and tools, from day one, whether you are just starting to become aware, deepening your understanding, or looking to boost your love for teaching. The dynamic and interactive workshops focus on teacher-family centered needs and challenges, intrinsically motivating participants to learn the value of self-regulation, and toxic stress, while integrating brain-based learning.
-
Why is this program considered to be transformative? The program is dynamic, capturing the value of academics, character building, and effective implementation plans while strengthening teacher wellness and enhancing skillsets. -
What makes From The Root Transformative Education different from programs that try to control or change children’s behavior? We focus on building a strong foundation of safety and emotional connection using tools and skills for educators and families to support children manage their emotions and behaviors. Our program focuses on teaching educators and families to be intrinsically motivated to do better by incorporating awareness of their executive function skills like empathy, problem-solving, and self-regulation. Our program DOES NOT support punishment practices to change behavior because brain research tells us this practice creates harm and limits learning opportunities. We prioritize teaching in safe environments to foster self-regulation and self-efficacy, ultimately optimizing learning. We CANNOT make anyone change; a belief that traditional teaching and discipline still rely on to teach children.
