Mission

Empower every adult to use equitable skills and tools to promote an environment for children that are predictable, safe, and consistent.

From The Root envisions an interconnected community of conscious individuals equipped with the tools to respond thoughtfully to conflicts, breaking the cycles of trauma that can begin as early as childhood. Our program is built to support educators and parents with practical tools to foster a culture of emotional safety, offering an alternative to reaction-based responses.

By understanding the root causes of stress and adverse childhood experiences, From The Root empowers teachers and parents to create environments where every child can thrive. A single supportive adult can change the trajectory of a young life, and with From The Root, schools can cultivate that culture of understanding and resilience.

Vision

An interdependent network of educators and families who promote self-regulation and presence.

By focusing on brain-based, trauma-informed approaches, we guide educators and caregivers in fostering the kind of atmosphere where every individual can feel present, supported, and empowered.

Our program asks two simple but powerful questions: What do children need for healthy brain development? and How can educators provide these experiences? By addressing the root causes of emotional challenges and equipping educators with the tools to model emotional well-being, From The Root empowers communities to break cycles of stress and reactivity.

Professional Development

We provide engaging and interactive workshops for educators that align with California's Teaching Profession in Early Childhood Performance Expectations.

Our professional development programs focus on developmentally appropriate practices as delineated by NAEYC to ensure high-quality training.

These workshops include information about ACEs, educational neuroscience, and trauma-informed practices to support school districts, school administrators, educators, and children in culturally responsive learning environments, promoting inclusive practices while advancing equity in their classrooms.

Parent Education Network

Trauma-informed research shows the value of programs that focus on teaching families about emotional regulation and managing their “reaction” to their child’s undesirable behaviors. Parent Education Network (PEN) helps families become connected with other families in their schools, creating a supportive network. PEN provides culturally responsive workshops to support and improve relationships between children, parents, and teachers.

Families in our PEN program have reported they have a greater sense of awareness of how to manage their emotions using language-based self-regulation skills. Their relationships with not only their children improved but the relationships with their children's teachers and school administrators became safer and trustworthy, creating a healthy network and community.
